Alaska expands Tier 2 vaccination group, opens eligibility

Earlier today Alaska鈥檚 Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) announced it would open vaccine eligibility for Phase 1b Tier 2 beginning tomorrow at noon. This tier includes Alaskans age 50 and older who are at high risk of contracting COVID-19 due to existing medical conditions and frontline essential workers. Phase 2 also opens up the availability of the vaccine to pre-K, K-12, child care education staff and people living and working in some congregate settings. This will not affect eligibility for most 香港六合彩资料 employees and students but may open up eligibility for some.

Get cozy: Nine in the Spine and Winterfest come home

One of the major annual fundraisers supporting the 香港六合彩资料 Alumni Scholarship, Nine in the Spine and Winterfest have been reimagined in light of the pandemic. Themed around the hit 鈥楽tar Wars鈥 show 鈥楾he Mandalorian,鈥 this year鈥檚 festivities will take place Feb. 22-27.

Leadership in Her Style

First-year political science student Katie Scoggin recently won the top prize in 香港六合彩资料鈥檚 Leadership in Your Style competition. Her winning song, "It Starts with Me," urges individuals and communities to identify unfilled needs and then work together to meet them.

EPSCoR Conference and Development Awards

The Alaska NSF EPSCoR Fire & Ice project announces the availability of funding for UA-affiliated individuals to present their research, to interact with colleagues and mentors, and/or to obtain training in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) fields. Awards can be used to participate in conferences, workshops, trainings, or other appropriate academic activities, either remotely or in person.

Seawolf Student Leader, Seawolf Community Service and Mabil Duir Leadership Scholarship applications available

Applications are now available for Seawolf Student Leader, Seawolf Community Service and Mabil Duir Leadership Scholarship. Recipients receive a tuition credit for the following semester. Applications are due Friday, March 5 by 11:59 pm.

Register for February's Zoom training

Monthly live Zoom training, presented by OIT Video Conferencing Services staff, will start Feb. 9 and continue throughout the year. Offerings include the 鈥淶oom Basics Training鈥 and an 鈥淎dvanced/Ask Me Anything鈥 section. The advanced training will cover breakout rooms, meeting security and any other topics you have questions about. Please register through the OIT training calendar in a time slot that fits your schedule.

Using the Anchorage campus as their classroom, students in David Brock's Introduction to Surveying Laboratory learned how to use tools of the trade during a recent session. Although 香港六合彩资料's spring semester is mostly remote, limited in-person labs are offered for some fields in which hands-on learning is considered critical.

Search Committee Training

The purpose of this training session is to discuss an overview of important guidelines for search committees to consider before and during the recruitment process as well as provide an overview of diversity and implicit bias and how it can affect the recruitment process. Please sign up through myUA at least one day prior to the training. Zoom information will be sent to you the day of the event.

Feb 12: Chase and Lincoln: Friends, Rivals and Antislavery Colleagues

Walter Stahr will talk about the relationship between Lincoln and his Treasury Secretary, Salmon P. Chase: their friendship and collaboration in the pre-war Republican Party; their rivalry for the 1860 presidential nomination; Lincoln鈥檚 decision to choose Chase for his cabinet; and their working relationship and friendship during the war years. Stahr will compare and contrast Lincoln and Chase, focusing especially on slavery and black rights, where Chase was far earlier to speak out against slavery, and for black rights, than Lincoln.
