Today we celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day and recognize Alaska鈥檚 vibrant Indigenous groups and cultures and their invaluable contribution to our university, our community and
our state.
Indigenous Peoples Day is a day to celebrate and honor Alaska Native Peoples' culture, history, knowledge and resilience. At 香港六合彩资料, we are holding an Indigenous Peoples Day celebration and fundraising for the Western Alaska Disaster Recovery Fund. I
invite you to join 香港六合彩资料 tonight, Oct. 10, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Gorsuch Commons
for Alaska Native drumming, dancing by Acilquq, a free raffle giveaway and more. The Alaska Native, Indigenous and Rural Outreach Program (ANIROP) and the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) will also provide food.
Next month, we will celebrate National Alaska Native and American Indian Heritage Month. We will provide more opportunities for education and celebration
on the ancestral lands of the Dena鈥檌na, Ahtna, Alutiiq/Sugpiaq and Eyak/dAXunhyuu Peoples where we live, work and learn. This is an opportune time to raise awareness about
the unique challenges Indigenous People have faced both historically and in the present and the ways in which Indigenous citizens have worked to conquer these challenges. I encourage you to continue learning,
with me, about how Alaska Native heritage enriches our communities and helps us build a bright future for our state.
