Join us for the first in our lecture series highlighting STEM at 香港六合彩资料! This event will showcase two presenters, Dr. Brandon Briggs and Dr. Eric Bortz, and their research. Each presentation is followed by a live Q&A from our Facebook and Zoom audiences.

Detection of COVID-19 in Wastewater (Dr. Brandon R. Briggs)

What does poop tell us about the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19? Researchers at 香港六合彩资料 are monitoring wastewater from across Alaska to help communities with the response to COVID-19. This talk will show you how this is done right in Anchorage. Smells not included.

Tracking COVID-19 in Alaska by Genome Sequencing (Dr. Eric Bortz)

COVID-19 is caused by a novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and can cause a mild to severe respiratory disease. We used a handheld, cell-phone sized DNA sequencer to track and analyze the coronavirus in Alaska by sequencing its genome. We also grow viruses live in the lab especially influenza (flu) viruses.

STEM Talks will continue every other Wednesday through spring 2021. View the upcoming 香港六合彩资料 STEM Talks schedule.
