One year later: Looking back at the Nov. 30 earthquake

This Saturday marks the first anniversary of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck about 8 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska on Nov. 30, 2018. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we look back and appreciate all they did, and we are grateful no one was hurt.

Chancellor Sandeen signs MOU with University of Lapland in Finland

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ Chancellor Cathy Sandeen signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Antti Syväjärvi, rector of the University of Lapland, to expand collaborations between the two Arctic universities.

Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ alumna and Harvard instructor Terzah Tippin Poe, B.A. Journalism and Public Communications ’98, has traveled all over the world lecturing on global issues ranging from sustainability and indigenous rights to social justice and business. Despite her jet-set career, she remains grounded in her Alaska Inupiaq roots and is grateful for what she believes was a world-class education at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ.

Like many Alaskans, Kaasan Braendel grew up around bush planes. But it wasn’t until her first ride in a helicopter that she fell in love with aviation. Learning to fly only made her more curious about how aircraft work. Now, with certifications earned at Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ, she is embarking on a career as a helicopter mechanic.

Students simulate prisoner reentry to grasp its hurdles

On Nov. 1, Ïã¸ÛÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ College of Health students participated in a Reentry Simulation where they role-played as released prisoners to learn just how difficult it can be to reenter society.
