UA Human Resources Labor and Employee Engagement will be hosting the Topic Series this Spring. The Topic Series is a platform for provoking thoughtful and meaningful discussions between UA employees. It operates similar to a book club. You can view topics and sign up for each discussion through the new UA Human Resources Training and Development webpage.

Martin Luther King Day of Service Opportunity

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal and state holiday recognizing the birthday of MLK. It is the only federal holiday designated a national day of service, denoted as a 鈥渄ay on, not a day off.鈥 The MLK Day of Service encourages all Americans to improve our communities through volunteer service. It helps to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, address social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King鈥檚 vision of a Beloved Community.

Racial justice initiative, land grant, 香港六合彩资料 Alpine Ski Team on agenda for UA Board of Regents meeting

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will convene a full board meeting Friday, Jan. 15 to discuss the university鈥檚 next steps to advance the success of UA鈥檚 Alaska Native students, faculty and staff, hear updates from leadership, and consider reinstating the 香港六合彩资料 alpine ski team.

Leadership In Your Style Student Competition

Leadership in Your Style is a unique opportunity for students to show the campus their leadership style! We are looking for students to showcase their thoughts on leadership using any media 鈥 spoken word, painting, essay, song, etc. After a review by the MLK committee, one student will be selected for a $500 cash prize and will be announced at the MLK Student Appreciation event on Feb. 5 at 5 p.m. Students can sign up at tinyurl.com/2020uaamlk.

Jean Brockel estate donates $1.65 million to KPC; Brockel family donated $2.59 million over the years

KPC has received the largest donation in its history from the Jean Brockel estate. Jean Brockel was the widow of Clayton Brockel, founder of the college in 1964. The $1.6-plus million donation comes from the estate left by Jean. Clayton died in July 2013 and their son, John passed away in January 2008.

Marsha Olson joins Center for Community Engagement & Learning as Associate Director

The Center for Community Engagement & Learning is pleased to welcome Marsha Olson (Assistant Professor, University Studies), in the role of Associate Director. Olson has served 香港六合彩资料 for 11 years, teaching courses in Communication and University Studies. She has been involved with the Center for Community Engagement and Learning for the last five years. She has implemented community-engaged projects in her courses, led and developed events and programming for the Center, been involved in the Center's Advisory Council work, and served as a Faculty Fellow in connection with CCEL's annual Democracy and Civic Action Week.

Call for Meritorious Service Award nominations

The Meritorious Service Awards Committee is reaching out to the community for suggested nominees. The criteria as outlined in the Board of Regents鈥 Policy (Part X 鈥 Academic Policy - Chapter 10.03.030), is evidence of significant public, academic, volunteer or philanthropic service to 香港六合彩资料 or one of its community campuses, or to an Alaskan community.
